Revolutionary Dry Eye Treatment

At Advanced Eye Physician, our goal is to provide you with top-quality, comprehensive eye care, including treatments. Your eyes should be comfortable and clear, so we have invested in intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy to lead the industry in dry eye treatments.

If you suffer from dry eyes resulting from meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), then IPL therapy could be the treatment you have been waiting for. Call us today to book your comprehensive eye exam and discuss treatments for dry eyes.

What is Intense Pulsed Light therapy?

What Is IPL?

Enter intense light pulsed therapy.

IPL is an in-office treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to target precise areas around the eyes, reducing inflammation. IPL is applied to specific areas around the face and eyes to traditionally treat acne and rosacea.

It’s intended to reduce inflammation and kill bacteria to improve the look of your skin. But it also has a benefit for your dry eyes by improving symptoms related to MGD! Patients that were being treated for rosacea were also noticing an improvement in their dry eyes.

Light from IPL produces a gentle heat that helps clear blocked meibomian glands and encourage meibum secretion.

At Advanced Eye Physician, we currently provide treatments for:

  • Signs of Aging
  • Acne
  • Skin Rejuvination
  • Meibomian Gland Dysfunction

Age Spots

Age spots are small portions of the skin that often turn dark as you become older. They typically appear in adults over 50 years old, but can also show up on young people who spend a higher-than-average amount of time outdoors.

Age spots are generally harmless, but can be mistaken for cancerous moles. As such, many people with age spots seek to have them removed using ResurFX technology for cosmetic purposes.

Acne occurs when oil and dead skin cells plug your hair follicles, causing blackheads, whiteheads, or pimples. Although acne is more common for young people, it can affect anyone at any age.

Acne can cause significant physical discomfort and emotional distress, though it is generally not dangerous. Since acne can be persistent and difficult to get rid of, however, you may wish to seek professional help.

The texture of your skin changes as you age—and not always for the better. While many people do not mind the occasional wrinkle or freckle, other changes like scarring and cellulite can cause embarrassment and unhappiness. Skin rejuvenation can help control and correct these issues, revealing smoother and younger skin beneath them.

You can learn more about IPL skin treatments on our Aesthetic Treatments page.

Your tears play a significant role in your ocular health. They lubricate, nourish, and protect your cornea, while flushing out dirt and debris. Moreover, also help focus light entering your eyes so you see clearly.

Tears contain 3 layers:

  • An inner mucus layer that keeps the tear film connected to the eye.
  • A watery middle layer that hydrates the eye and repels bacteria.
  • An outer oily layer to keep the tear smooth and prevent the other layers from evaporating.

This oily layer is called meibum produced by the meibomian glands. If these glands become blocked, then there is less oil in the tear film, and the tears evaporate too quickly. In addition, the oil that is secreted can be grainy or unhealthy and cause irritation. These resulting tear film issues are called meibomian gland dysfunction.

Symptoms of MGD:

  • Dry eyes and inflammation
  • Burning or itching eyes
  • Stickiness or crustiness around the eyes
  • Excessive eye watering
  • Light sensitivity
  • Red eyes
  • Foreign body sensation
  • Intermittent blurry vision
  • Styes
